Baking cups are too big for mold?

Hi everyone, I am baking cupcakes and I put the cups on baking pan, I see they are twice as large. They stand, they are the same size, but just too big. Would it be acceptable to just put the dough and make cook in it anyway or is it possible that I cut the excess of the cup of cooking? Thank you! I'm Red Velvet Cupcakes do with cheese frosting cream: D
